Herbs For Constipation

 

 

Introduction

Constipation is a condition of the digestive system and it is characterized by difficulty to expel feces. Practically, it is when a person has less than three bowel movements in seven days. The causes of constipation can be as a result of lack of fibers in the diet, insufficient water and fluid intake, physical inactivity and side effects of certain drugs.

Natural remedies are unique and highly effective in relieving the symptoms of constipation. For long, people have been using herbs and products of nature to ease issues of digestion, thus relieving constipation. Here’s a list of herbs that can be used for the management of constipation.

  1. Senna

Senna is a large genus of flowering plant in the family of legume. It is among the vastly known and used herbs for constipation. Senna herb constitute compounds known as glycosides that act as laxative to stimulate the digestive system.

A spoonful of senna mixture will be just enough to relieve symptoms that are associated with difficulty in strolling.

  1. Peppermint herb

Peppermint herb is a mixture mint, a part of water mint and spearmint. Popularly found growing in Europe and the Middle East, the mint herb is uniquely favorable for relieving constipation and softening feces. Peppermint has an essential ingredient called menthol, which provides a soothing effect that help to relax an upset stomach.

Ginger is a flowers plant that’s widely used as spice and other medicinal purposes. The importance of ginger is that it assists in the constipation that is caused by poor digestion. Thus, ginger is a vital product of nature that calms irritation and improve digestion.

To effectively use ginger for constipation, take 1 or 2 cups daily after meal, as this will promote the body to digest the food, and foster bowel movement.

  1. Dandelion herb

This herb works in two ways. Firstly, it stimulate the appetite and secondly, it aid in the digestion of food.  It relieves constipation by acting as a diuretic that adds water to the digestive system and stools, hence, leading to the easy passage of stools.

Dandelion may be taken in form of tea, daily after meals.

  1. Marshmallow root

Marshmallow root is often used as an ingredient in medicinal teas. It has a soothing and laxative effect that helps the digestive system to ensure food digestion, thereby reducing constipation symptoms.

In the form of tea, the marshmallow root is taken once daily before bedtime.
