Herbs for Rosacea
ROSACEA; HERBAL REMEDY FOR TREATMENT
Introduction
Also known as acne rosacea, rosacea is a skin condition that causes redness and most times, red, pus-filled spots on the face. It mostly affects middle aged women with light skin complexion. The causes of rosacea include anything that could trigger flaring up of rosacea. This includes heat, alcohol, infection, inflammation and spicy foods.
With symptoms of rosacea being blushing and flushing, redness, swelling burning, stinging, inflamed acne and broken capillaries, herbal remedies that can be used to treat this skin condition include the following:
- Turmeric (Curama longa)
Turmeric has been used to treat a variety of health conditions for a long time. With it being a potent anti-inflammatory herb, turmeric is used to effectively treat the inflammatory condition of rosacea. It contains curcuminoids and it is either taken orally or applied topically to soothe symptoms.
To use turmeric to relieve symptoms of rosacea;
Mix a few tablespoon of turmeric powder with plain honey or milk. Try to make it into a paste form.
Apply the paste to the affected skin are and leave it for 20 to 30 minutes.
Rinse with tepid water.
- Neem
Neem is a tree plant that is common in South East Africa. It has medicinal remedies, most particularly to skin health and care. The leaf, bark and oil of this ayurvedic plant are rich in Vitamin E and essential fatty acids. Medicinally, neem is used to boost lipid content and to repair the skin barrier function. Additionally, it has anti-inflammatory attribute that enables it to soothe irritations caused by rosacea flare ups. With its antifungal and antibacterial properties, it is an ideal remedy for treating rosacea.
- Gentian root and burdock root
These two herbal roots are one of the best natural methods that can be used to prevent and treat rosacea flare ups that are caused by digestive problems. Gentian root works by eliminating indigestion and cleansing the digestive system, so as to avoid triggers that could lead to the formation of rosacea. On the other hand, burdock root helps to detoxify the body from infections that could result in rosacea. For the purpose of usage, these two roots are used together as they complement each other in their medicinal approach.
- Coconut oil and lavender oil
These two oils are not necessarily herbs but they are extracted form coconut and lavender respectively. With respect to rosacea, coconut oil is used both internally and topically to relieve inflammation and support tissue repair. Lavender, on the other hand, is applied directly in contact to the affected portion of the skin (diluted in a carrier oil of your choice). With the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, it offers the possibility of effectively preventing and treating rosacea.
- Aloe Vera
Also known as nature’s best hydrator, aloe Vera is a mild and gentle herbal remedy for rosacea. Applying this wonderful plant to the affected skin surface can lead to the reduction of rosacea symptoms. To use this gentle herb, it is advisable to apply the gel to the skin, twice daily.
