NATURAL WAYS OF TREATING ALOPECIA

Introduction
Alopecia is an autoimmune condition that causes deficiency of hair, as a result of failure to grow hair, or hair loss after growth. This condition affects about 6.8 million people in the United States alone. In the majority of individuals, hair may fall out in small patches about the size of a quarter. This condition, most times can lead to the total loss of hair on the scalp or in the worst case, the entire body.
Therefore, there is a high need that stems towards the treatment of alopecia. This need include natural method of treating alopecia, and herbs have found their relevance to treatment modalities. Here’s a list of natural herbs that can be used to treat alopecia.
- Ashwagandha
Also known as the Indian winter cherry, this ayurvedic herb is an outstanding remedy that is useful in hair growth and regeneration. It is a widely used herb that works by controlling the hormone cortisol. Cortisol plays a role in causing hair loss and delay in hair growth. It has an antioxidant property and it is used as a remedy for dandruff.
Ashwagandha is used for alopecia by combining it with 6 tablespoon of water, 3 tablespoon of dried Alma powder that is boiled into a paste form. The mixture is then applied on the scalp and hair for a period of three times weekly.
- Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri)
Brahmi is a creeping perennial herb with effective herbal properties used in the treatment of bald head, hair loss and alopecia. It functions by strengthening hair and promoting hair growth by providing nourishment to the hair root, thus enabling follicle growth.
Brahmi is used by mixing 2 tablespoons of dried Brahmi powder with 2 tablespoons dried Alma powder, 2 tablespoons dried Ashwagandha powder and ½ cup of yoghurt, and applied to the hair for 1 hour.
- Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is a succulent ayurvedic plant of the germ Aloe. It is an everywhere perennial plant that is cultivated for medicinal and aesthetic purposes. Aloe Vera is a significant ingredient for boosting scalp health, curbing alopecia and promoting the healthy growth of hair.
½ cup of pure Aloe Vera gel is mixed with 3 tablespoon of coconut oil and 2 tablespoon of honey, and applied to the scalp of the head for 30 minutes. This method of usage can be done once or twice per week.
- Bringraj (The king if herbs)
Bringraj, which is translated to mean the king if herbs is a potent herb and ayurvedic remedy to alopecia, balding and premature graying. Whilst promoting hair growth and preventing premature hair graying, it also reverses balding. Most commonly, it comes in oil and powder forms for commercial use, and it has a calm effect that induces sleep when applied to the scalp.
To use Bringraj, blend the leaves of the herb with water into a paste-like form. Apply the mixture and leave it for about 20 minutes for three times per week.
- Alma
Having found its relevance in effectively treating conditions such as indigestion and blood infirmities, Alma offers an ayurvedic solution for alopecia and hair fall. This herb tackles alopecia by improving the scalp health and fostering hair follicles for growth.
Alma is used by mixing 5-6 tablespoons of Alma powder with 5-6 tablespoons of water, and then applied as smooth paste to the scalp and hair for 30 minutes, 3 times weekly.
